Neglectful

Well, it hasn't been very recent that I've updated you all... (Yes, indeed it has been approx. 4 days! I apologize! So, here I am, saying to you all today that I will work on this website in order to procrastinate reading lines 1-1250 of Beowulf. Speaking of, one night, many many moons ago, I had a dream about what my tiny little brain believed the plot of Beowulf to be. It was about a lonely wolf who was also a star, he cried out in his solar system, begging for someone to talk to him. That someone being a person on Earth. They were prompted to worship this wolf who was also a star (a wolf-star-god if you will) and regale their world with this god's past heroic duties. Ah, it is coming back to me now! Yes, this person tried to follow this wolf-star-god but at long last the poor thing had become so lonely, so distraught in only having one follower, that it imploded upon itself! This human was left with nothing to do afterwards, and cried out in sadness that their visons had ceased to exist. Did this god no longer love them? It was hard to tell. He was, unfortunately, gone. Anyways, that's my little story. I could probably write something about that later on if you all would so care to see. Anyway, I was doing some homework and I had to come up with a six-word autobiography. Bull! I could never begin to describe myself in six words ('tis blasphemy!) but, unfortunately, that was her point. So, I decided to write a lovely "Does liking Dostoyevsky count as personality?" for my six word autobio. Will let you know how a class full of English majors will take that (I think they hate me). Anywho, I don't have much to talk about today. I hope my lovely, loyal two followers have a wonderful night- and, if you are not a follower but somehow stumbled upon my ramblings... Have an amazing night as well!

Learning

It is 11:04AM on 1/17/2024 in the very unquiet college town I live in. These past few days I have been toiling late at night to discern the mechanics to creating a website. Mind you, I have ZERO experience in doing such-- in fact, I have typically disliked compsci (if you can call this that). However, after visiting a kind few websites I have come to the conclusion that perhaps making a strange old-style website would be FUN!!!! But, alas, little did I know the extreme effort this would require. Learning an entirely new language has been extremely challenging for me, and I still struggle so frequently with the intricacies of coding. Regardless, I shall perservere! Before my next class- 2:00PM- I will work on this side and add to today's log what I have done. After class, I may work on it some more, but there seems to be a club fair going on that I might want to attend (free stuff!),,, so we'll see. In other news:I completely embarrassed myself in my ENGL class today... but it is what it is and I will survive. This next class, Short Story, I am quite excited for. I mean, who wouldn't? The professor seems exceptional and is well versed in short stories from all around the world as opposed to simply America/Britain. The first class is always pretty terrible (the professor just BLABS! on and on about whatever they want to when we could simply READ the syllabus! Please! Spare me!) but this class seems like something I'll really enjoy- considering I loved Fiction Writing last semester (luckily, I had a wonderful professor- some other classes, not so much). Regardless, here's to hoping I meet some cool people in this class, because my past two classes I have had no luck whatsoever. Although, my Brit Lit class had SOME cool people, I just sat at the wrong table and am stuck with cis men whom I am quite terrible fearful of.

Bookstore Extravaganza!

So, late 1/17/2024 I solemnly decided (solemnly because I only handwrite when I'm sad, mind you) to create a journal. Luckily, I had just recently bought a journal (it was on sale too!) from Half Price Books (HPB - used bookstore chain) and was able to use that one. I started filling out the first page with rules for my journal- no ripping out pages, et cetera- when I decided: "Maybe I can store something in a pocket?" So, I unknowingly checked the front of the journal- no pocket- and the back of the journal- pocket heaven! I opened up the pocket to judge the size of it and, to my surprise, found a small envelope addressed to "M" (with a swirly line on the bottom of the name). Well, M, I was scared to open your letter. See, I am a worrywart, and so, of course, I was fearful of some kind of Ultra-Death-Mechanism that would ultimately end my life. Perhaps, in the end, there WAS a death mechanism- the ones we make along the way! In any case, I carefully opened that beautifully sealed envelope (hopefully, Creator, you did not lace it with your spit) and to my avail I found a coupon to Half Price Books! Well, one that expired in 2022- but the coupon itself was a great deal... The creator was really looking out for M! But, as I search further (not much further at all) I find a card... AN HPB GIFT CARD! It was addressed to M as well, and so I looked at the back to see its worth- FIFTY DOLLARS? THIS IS A FIFTY DOLLAR GIFT CARD THAT M WILLINGLY DONATED! Luckily, it was placed in hands no other than my own- and I am a very big bookworm.
So, today, I sought out the nearest HPB in my area- which was unfortunately 20 miles away- and set out to buy the best set of books yet. I was looking for something like a classic hardcover- or paperback- set. Unfortunately, I did not find any sets, but I found a very beautiful rendition of Bram Stoker's Dracula, with a wonderful red base and silvery-black lining. That was only $12 too! I also searched around heavily for The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov- but to no avail... Or so I thought! At the very end, as I was about to check out, I find under the "Staff Picks!" that very book! God is looking out for me! Fairly early on into my search I found Candide by Voltaire- which I am STOKED to read. My band director from High School had us play the Candide-Suite by whomever, and my director took it upon himself to explain the book as well. I was, at first, more intruiged by the music, but as I learned to love books I quickly became enamored with this sort of satire-tragedy. Anyways, can't wait to read that! The next book is a book either hated or loved: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger. I personally have heard mostly good things, so I decided to buy this as it was cheeeeaaaap! Then, of course, I got some essential Kafka texts (Woodsworth Classics collection). And, last but certainly not least, I had heard a lot about Natsume Soseki- but finding his books was certainly a task. Recently, I had seen I Am a Cat pop up in Barnes & Noble, but no luck with used bookstores... Until today! I saw some of his works- albeit not I Am a Cat unfortunately- and I specifically bought Kokoro. I am SO excited to read all of these! I would like to personally thank the Universe, or whatever Divine being, or luck, or whatnot, that had graced me with this gift card as it will be a testament to my reading journey! Catch me in 6 years, PhD in English something-another teaching college kids about the beauty of these books (assuming they are of good quality)!
